I want you to be well, an open letter to Americans

I want you to be well.
I don’t have to like you.

I don’t have to approve of you.

I don’t even have to know you.

I just want you to be well.

How I personally may feel about how you look, where you’re from, the work you do, the company you keep, how you vote or pray, is completely irrelevant.

I’m an American. You’re an American. Our destinies are linked, our fortunes are shared. It’s not hard to see how we all do better when we all do better.

So, selfishly, I want you and everyone in your family to be well.

I want every American to be healthy enough to live up to their full potential. Good health, supported by good health care, is fundamental for a productive life.

Universal health care is the only health care system that leaves nobody out, that covers everybody — rural and urban, rich and poor, young and old.

We all need each other to be well, for our own good.

That’s why I support politicians who support improved Medicare for All.
